In this article, the author describes the formation, development and current status of a skills system in use in a Glasgow Secondary School. The school's circumstances are outlined, and then the article explains how issues and observations with the school library led to a number of hypotheses and a rationale. The progress of the skills system as it evolved and became part of a Whole School concept is explored, and the characteristics of the system, which the school believes is unique, are discussed. The ways in which this Future Skills System relates to the new curriculum in Scotland are indicated, together with the means by which the system brings together careers, employers, expectations and skills. The article concludes by highlighting the current stage in the process.Downloads
