Practical and formal steps in arranging dissertation research in the USA are outlined. (This experience can be useful to future students - and their supervisors: some practical tips are included.) After considering various methodologies it was decided to conduct case studies in eight large (California) corporations. intranet. These showed the importance of their lntranets in developing an up to date and successful Library and lnformation service.
